  1. It is our 150 birthday next year and we are planning numerous events. If anyone has information on members from the past please get in touch.

  2. The date has got to be pre-1904, as due to the lack of air pollution the pair of semi-detached houses at the junction of the High Street / Bridge Road / Yarm Lane (where The Swallow Hotel still stands) can clearly be seen. These houses (once a single mansion built in the 1840’s) were demolished in that year for erection of The Empire Theatre/Music Hall, which opened in 1908.

  3. Great photo, you can see all the way down Yarm Lane, past the Theater Royal (pool hall on it’s site still has the same footprint), to the houses at the junction of the High Street and Bridge Road. It seems a very wide road for a horse and cart. The 3 storey building behind the church is still on the corner of Hartington Road and was once called “Heaton Royds”. The shops opposite are also still there, they were built on part of the old Vicarage garden.
