  1. Following closure by the Co-op, I worked here in the early 1960’s when the building was used as temporary premises by Martins Bank whilst their office at 2 Norton Road was being modernised.

  2. My local co-op was in Yarm. I remember trying to cross the high street in a seriously bad fog to get yeast for my Mother.

    • Pam: Was that the large Co-op Grocery/Butchers premises at No 104 High Street, which later traded under several other formats and is currently occupied by ‘Muse’ restaurant?

  3. Hopefully, the shop next door (l/h side) had a good central heating system, with which to warm it’s employees and customers in deepest winter. Having installed a huge glass frontage and a glazed roof, the shop would have wonderful natural lighting, but little in terms of effective insulation. I guess this picture was taken in the early/mid 50’s? Does anyone know the name of the retailer?
