Did this building used to be called the Westgate cafe back in the early 1970s where you could get a great pie peas and chips with gravy?
Volkes shop on Norton Road, next to Chapmans Garage… Has anyone any info or photos? They were related to my mother. Thanks Derek.
Volkes shop was next to the Co-op butchers, then the Co-op grocers and Chapmans Garage.
This was the old Co-op fruit & veg shop on the corner of Hume Street in the forties & fifties, opposite to the Stockton Grammar School (now the Buffs Club).
My grandparents owned a fruit and veg shop here many many years ago I wonder if they took it over from the co-op.
Is this place still open? It appears to have closed down recently, whenever I go past.
Charltons closed temporarily when Godwins Furniture shop was badly damaged by a fire last year and was demolished because it was unsafe.
