  1. Reckon this is somewhere between ’88 and ’91, Halfords has just closed down so I’m guessing the big Halfords down near the river had recently opened.

  2. My Aunty Edna Bateman worked in” The Buttery” sweet shop in Dovecote Street about 5 or 6 shops up on the left, in the 50s and 60s which was then took over by “Maynards” sweets. Me and my brothers used to also go to the panto at the Hippodrome, and many other shows.The last show I remember seeing in the 60s was Acker Bilk and his Paramount Jazz Band. We used to get cheap seats in the Gods which was a mountain climb to the 4th floor circle, and the stage looked like a television it was so far away, Lol. Happy days!

  3. This street has changed so much , my mother was a chorus girl in pantomime when I was young at the Hippodrome theatre where the Arc now stands
