Al, I’m surprised you’d have a picture of Yarm going that far back. I don’t think you were even born then were you?
I was born in 1949. 26 years old when I took this photo.
Little difference today, except that the 9 lamposts (3 of which are shown in the pic.) which gave a wonderful ‘yellow glow’ to the High St at night, have now been replaced (without any resident consultation) by no less than 40 ‘brite-white’ 30’0″ high lamp-posts. In the early hours, the High St now has all the illumination qualities of an outdoor sports-centre.
