Hardwick Hall can be seen in the background and in the foreground is the now demolished Hardwick Junior School and Piper Knowle Road. A small housing estate now stands on the old school site.
I believe that the head Chef at the Hardwick Hall Complex was my old friend and local artist Tony Hutchinson. Tony was a world traveled Chef who had worked all over the world cooking for the rich and famous, including members of the Royal Family. Tony finished his career as a chef at the Hardwick Hall before retirement he took up his first love painting, and his many paintings of Stockton and surrounding areas is first class, a couple of his painting can be seen on this site. Tony’s health lately has not been so good and he has had to give up his stall in the Green Dragon Yard. Hope you are feeling better Tony and on the way to recovery.
We called it Hardwick House it belonged to ICI through the war and after. They ran courses there in their constant need to up grade people H&S was my course and it was a week of wonderful food, yes they fed you and the afternoon sessions were either quite mad or else the snoring dropped the tutors voice.
They also owned Norton House at Hartburn as a Work Study School, people were trained there from Heavy Industries of all descriptions
Frank.
