I took these in Stockton in about 1976, the hardware shop was run by J.T. Hodgson who is in the main photo. He was an amateur artist who painted detailed work with Valspar paint a very unusual medium! Unfortunately I recorded no other information and I’d be interested to know more. The shop was ready to be demolished as part of a redevelopment.

JT Hodgson’s shop was situated nearly opposite St Mary’s church on Norton Road, there was a large bus stop right outside the shop. I don’t believe it is there anymore, as the site is now part of the inner Stockton ring road with a large round about there.

I remember him very well from 1957, I was a delivery boy for Walter Wilson’s and my mate Gordon Hodgson was a delivery boy for JT Hodgson. Gordon used to deliver glass for customers of the shop. Gordon finally became the Manager of Dickens hyper market in Portrack Lane. Fond memories.
