A photograph of one of the so-called ‘west villas’ (there are 5 in total) located on Oxbridge Lane directly opposite to the Cemetery. They are all similarly sized, very large semi-detached houses. Note that these houses also have very large gardens at the rear.

Wow, my Grandma Maud Wilson moved there in 1902 with her dad, mum and family, and the family remained there until 1919 after her dad died and she had married and moved to Raby Road. In his family history, my dad Trevor said “the family’s new home was a large stucco-faced house in West Villas named ‘Rosemont’. In those days, West Villas were virtually the last houses out of Stockton along Oxbridge Lane, before one came to the ancient Ox Bridge and open farming country. Rosemont was the end house in a group of four, with a wide side entrance leading into the house and back garden, and standing immediately opposite the cemetery gates.” My dad produced a pencil portrait of Rosemont in the 1970s for his family history book which shows the West Villas to be exactly similar to this photo. I am sorry, but there is nothing else in the book about the history of the houses..
We lived at Westmead one on the end . Beautiful house. Moved away in the early 80’s.
Thanks for this photo. I’ve seen these properties and would love to know the history of them.
