I remember buying a harrington jacket in Peters around 1971, I’ve noticed they are back in fashion again.

Some great shops there. I remember going in lots of them especially Stewarts for the flowered shirts and Stylo had some great shoes.

I WORKED IN PETERS ARMY AND NAVY STORES, THEN IN THE MOD SHOP AT THE BACK FOR ALL THE YOUNG ONES. THIS WAS 1965/1966. THIS IS WHERE I HAD MY PHOTO TAKEN WITH BILLY J KRAMER AND THE DAKOTAS. HE WAS GORGEOUS. I CAN STILL REMEMBER THE FEELING I GOT, BECAUSE HE WAS MY IDOL. I WAS 6 MONTHS PREGNANT AT THE TIME. THE PHOTO WAS IN THE EVENING GAZETTE. THOSE WERE THE DAYS!

I see the old Stylo shop on this picture, that takes me back to when I had just started wearing high heel shoes, we all got them from there and when the heel wore down you could just screw out the metal tip and get a replacement for about 2/6d. The shoes, I remember, were £2.50 or if you were feeling well off you could go up a notch and get £2.19.11d. Wish you get them for that now. Does anyone else remember the screw in heels? Happy days.

I remember going into Pete”s Army & Navy back in the mid 50″s with a gang of pals and we all bought world war two steel army helmets for 6 old pence each. There were British type, US & now and then a German coal scuttle type.

I believe the Army and Navy stores pictured belonged to my partners grandfather Wilfred Cohen at the time of this photo and until his death in 1965. I would love to know if anyone has any other photos of this shop as it is the first one I have found and whether the shop still exists. (lucyshearer01@hotmail.com)
