St John’s Crossing, Bridge Rd. Stockton

St John’s crossing on Bridge road.  The first shot shows the signal box which controlled the road crossing over the Stockton quayside branch.   The other shows one of the locos used on the Quayside branch – Tyne & Tees Shipping Wharfe loco number 6, built by Robert Stephenson & Hawthorne in 1945.

  1. You are looking towards Bridge Road. John Smith’s timber yard was right next to the crossing, the goods yard and ticket office are out of shot on the right. The loco is heading for the quayside which would be behind the camera on the left.

  2. Does anyone know which side of the crossing the picture with the tankie was taken? The houses in the background lend themselves to the properties adjacent to the crossing, which would make this shot heading into what was South Stockton Goods, rather than along the quay
