Ropner Park Official Opening Programme
These images are the pages of the Ropner Park Official Opening programme. The opening took place on October 4th 1893 by the Duke and Duchess of York (later King George V & Queen Mary) and included luncheon, marching bands and fireworks. The programme includes advertisements for Messrs Peckston & Co Outfitters, Toogood & Co general grocery stores, Blakeborough & Rhodes hot water engineers, Ralph Appleton Estate Agent, Auctioneer and valuer and Stanton’s Boots. Stockton Celebrations
This photograph was taken by a family member of Brian Swales, Wilfred Richardson (1898-1964) who was born at 26 Newtown Avenue, Stockton. The photograph shows celebrations in Stockton to mark the end of the First World War. Does anyone recognise where exactly this is? It looks as though the houses are on a slight bank judging by the varying thickness of the step beneath the gate and the step in the roof. Brian thought it might be somewhere in the Newtown area but isn’t sure.
The second picture was added later than the first after Brian Swales believed he had actually identified the property as one of the houses between Londonderry Road & Dundas Street on Durham Road, opposite Newtown school. It certainly looks very similar to us…
