Norton Cricket Team, 1946

t13428In the years just before and just after World War Two, Norton had a very strong cricket team. The team pictured from 1946 did the double of winning the Kerridge Cup and the North Yorkshire and South Durham league.

The team is as follows…Back Row (L-R): ??, Basil MaQuillan, Tom Birtle, Harry Thompson, George Carter, and Wilf Lawson. Front Row (L-R): Dick Spooner, Freddie Harker, David Walford, Davis Townsend (captain), Jimmy Grigor and Edgar Manners.

Del and The Falcons c1965

t13423 t13424These two photographs are of Del and The Falcons taken at the Maison in Stockton sometime during the winter of 1965/66.

The line-up was:
Drums: Merv Jones
Bass: Mally Willis
Vocals: Pete Embleton
Guitar/vocals: Paul Butler

It’s difficult to pinpoint the exact date as we often played at the Maison on a Saturday and then the following Monday. As can be seen from the photographs, we were sharing the bill that night with The Zephrons. The fashion police amongst you will notice that Mally and I are wearing cardigans!

Norton Board School

t13418 t13419The first photograph is of the Nursery School that ran by the side of Tanners Bank, taken c1963. The second photograph is taken in the school garden at the back of the bottom class room c1968, it was possibly Mrs Pounds class. Most of the names escape me, but I am sure some of the people who have written in regarding Norton Board would be able to fill in the blanks…
