Steel Sculpture of Locomotion No.1, 2013
A new ‘street art’ sculpture of Locomotion No.1 was unveiled today at the south end of the town. The steel sculpture was created by artist Steve Tomlinson. This is where the first rail of the Stockton and Darlington Railway was laid on 13 May 1822 near St John’s Crossing on Bridge Road, Stockton. (Contribution kindly sent in by David Thompson).

‘It’s in the Air’, RAF recruitment drive, the Globe c1939
In 1939, The Globe showed George Formby’s latest film based around the RAF called, ‘It’s in the Air’. The RAF decided to stage a recruiting drive at the Globe whilst the film was showing. These photographs show some of the RAF display in the foyer of the theatre.

Boathouse Lane
These are two photographs of Boathouse Lane where Forster Brotherton Timber Company once stood. I worked for the company from 1975-1978. I believe it was bought by Magnet and Southern in 1980/81. It is rather sad to see how desolate Boathouse Lane looks these days. Was this also the site for the Imperial Tramway Company, which once operated the tram system throughout the Teesside area?
