A new ‘street art’ sculpture of Locomotion No.1 was unveiled today at the south end of the town. The steel sculpture was created by artist Steve Tomlinson. This is where the first rail of the Stockton and Darlington Railway was laid on 13 May 1822 near St John’s Crossing on Bridge Road, Stockton. (Contribution kindly sent in by David Thompson).

t13159A view of the Northern end of the High street including Stockton Market, Victoria Buildings, the Royal Oak, the Parish Church, Maxwell’s Corner, Norton Road Congregational Church, Robinsons, Sparks Café, Boots and Marks and Spencer. Boathouse Lane

t13146These are two photographs of Boathouse Lane where Forster Brotherton Timber Company once stood. I worked for the company from 1975-1978. I believe it was bought by Magnet and Southern in 1980/81. It is rather sad to see how desolate Boathouse Lane looks these days. Was this also the site for the Imperial Tramway Company, which once operated the tram system throughout the Teesside area?
