Aerial view of Lanehouse Farm. c1990
An aerial view of Lane House Farm c1990, one time home of Sue Wratten who kindly donated the photograph. This was taken before the building of Ingleby Mill School. The pond that can be seen in the top left of the photograph was home to a colony of grey-crested newts, an endangered species. There was a great deal of concern about the loss of their habitat at the time which culminated in a campaign to provide them with a new home. This campaign was supported by David Bellamy the eminent naturalist and brought about the creation of a new pond on the other side of the new school. With the help of a number of volunteers, the majority of the newts were captured and successfully transported to their new home. The area has been affected by vandalism over the years and Stockton Borough Council are now taking steps to ensure the site is protected.
