Stockton High Street c1890s
Is the High Street being dug up due to the reconstruction of the tramway? The piano dealers, SS Eades occupied the building from 1894 – 1935. The distinctive ‘peaks’ of the Lambton Castle pub can be seen further down. These buildings still stand there today.
Hirings Day, Stockton c1909
Old fashioned caravans draw up beside “Paines Side Shows” on Hirings Day. The tall building behind the sideshows is the North Eastern Bank Co Ltd later Barclay’s Bank, Stockton c1909

I believe these were two of the best coaching inns in the north. I can also see William Strikes the Florist. This side of the High Street had more character then than it has today, it’s a shame that it’s still not like this. I believe whole area was demolished in the 1970s.
