Newport Bridge c1933

t12842The foundation stone was laid in 1932 and opened to traffic in 1934 by the Duke of York. The Newport Bridge spans the River Tees, linking Stockton-on-Tees to Middlesbrough.

The Cleveland Flour Mills, Thornaby c1970

s1010A view of the Cleveland Flour Mills at Thornaby, seen from the Corporation Quay, Stockton. The mills were established in 1871 and closed in 1960 (1879 Appleton, Richard H and Co., later Appleton, French and co.) The site pre 1871 was occupier by W. Turnbull and Co. shipyards.
